@boastars which kind of shows you how many ignorant consumers exist, who will jump on anything based on brand name alone. Stup1️⃣d products exist because stup1️⃣d customers exist. "supply and demand". Big companies become emboldened when they know people will buy anything with their brand name on it. That's where you get shortchanged badly for your money. Canon has done the same thing in the DSLR market back then for the same reason.

Fujifilm XF10 is a legendary which show that bad products segmentation become deal breaker.
If Fuji put better processor (which used by Fujifilm X-A7), Fujifilm XF10 may be brilliant products, which pocketable as GR + pleasing SOOC color from Fuji.

It's not about going high end. It's about companies taking advantage of their own popularity to exploit consumers.

I can't blame Sony alone or the consumers alone. Both play a role. There are too many people who buy things without doing their own homework first.

Asking a camera store owner what do they recommend isn't necessarily a good idea because depending on what kind of seller you're dealing with, some just want to sell products that earn them the most commission. They don't care if they end up recommending you a poorer choice.

That this camera does not fill your needs, doesn't mean that it will be unuseable for others. My guess is that it will fill the intended niche quite well.

Once again, go and check out various video reviews online, and tell me how this camera is close to even usable. Putting aside no optical stabilisation - which is still acceptable, the digital image stabilisation actually worsens the footage. At 500 bucks this product is an insult to customers. It's worth no more than $250.

It is a stup1d product. Period. You're trying too hard to defend your favourite brand.

You're better off buying a canon m200 at this point - which is selling for only $450 as a kit, even if there's no mic jack or no future for the EFM mount. With the mic jack part, what i do is i record a separate audio where a lav mic is connected to my phone, and I'll sync and replace the audio later. It's a 20 second job if you know how to look at wave forms.

It absolutely doesn't. I have the 13 Pro Max as well as the ZV-1 and the camera is miles better than the phone. Even if the sensor is essentially not that much bigger the lens and quality of optics is what makes the gigantic difference.

Check my comment below... Of course I know. It still doesn't remotely look like images from a phone. It's still a night and day difference.

@ Foskito: I have young people around me who use such cameras, and some of them produce very good work. Also, I have been there, so I have learned that playfulness, creativity, knowledge, experience and planning is the important part of any production - stills or video. Low end gear can be used to create magics.

Some try to compensate for lack of skills with high end/high spec camera gear, but this is rarely a good idea ... actually, I thought that you already had figured out my standpoint here.

Did you read that I have the ZV-1 and a 13 Pro Max? I can shoot identical images with both and compare myself. The camera is still way superior.

Phones have trouble with fitting good enough optics in such a small package. It's why they rely on heavy sharpening and computational power to stack and produce an image with heavy artifacts and weird smudges. It's so obvious from your linked galleries as well.

No doubt phones are good enough for the overwhelming majority of people out there. But there is a very clear difference when viewed on a bigger screen.

This camera can't shoot raw, but it's even more evident when shooting with that option with its sibling.

Look at picture 24 of your Xiaomi link and you'll find a good example of the 'weird smudges' that @Nokiron mentions. On the center foliage.
It also shows uncoherent blur on the foliage compared to the blur seen in areas located at the same depth, forward and aft, around that spot.
These are not due to wind on the leaves. Well lit leaves do not exhibit that. This is a typical result of computational work trying to boost dynamic by stacking on dark regions with slow moving objects.

That Xiaomi has a 1-inch type sensor and Leica optics. Did you really check out the gallery? Even DPreviewers are saying they’re impressed and it’s good enough to leave your ILC at home.

@Nokiron The Xiaomi 12S has a 1-inch sensor and a good lens, so if you shot RAW, you'd get virtually the same image quality as you'd from the ZV-1. It'd also be massively superior to the ZV-1F's JPEGs precisely because there would be no heavy sharpening and weird smudges...

"Leica optics". Glad someone still falls for marketing. It's absolutely not "good enough to leave your ILC at home". Again, for the majority of the market that has been the case for many years, but for photographers it's not even close. It's a good addition, but again has been for many years and it's nothing new.

The Sony doesn't stack images. That's what makes the images smudge and needs over sharpening, not the JPEG format itself. This camera should definitely have been able to shoot raw though.

I have to agree the image quality is not a selling point.

1,0 type of zv-1 is near 3x larger than camera of iphone 13 pro
