There are 2 reasons Global Shutter went away. Less Dynamic Range, and less Quantum Efficiency. Global shutter takes half the pixel for storing the capacitance. That means less full well, and...

This is the best summary of camera properties on the web. Outstanding Bob!

@AbrasiveReducer, Have you ever seen the pictures of Sendai? The mechanics, the precision, the design. They don't make them like they used to, and never will again. I will never give up my FM,...

@Antisthenes There is no doubt Ron Rivest is brilliant. The algorithms he Adi Shamir, Leonard Adleman and others came up with have made security in a binary world possible. The problems have been...

@Antisthenes Nice reply, however Sony was never a serious player in most of the technologies you suggested. Developers are not Cryptographers. Look at WEP, they can take any well developed crypto...

Eleven years ago Nikon did a similar feature, primarily targeted at Police to establish chain of evidence for Police photos. It took the hackers less than a year to render it obsolete. Without...

@Weegee There are no Japanese companies with anyone like Elon.

@1234567890 have you looked at Broadcast camera prices?

@MILC I spent 20 years as an IBM CE and have seen exactly what your link suggests, putting the power plug on the back of a laptop is less than optimal. Those are the only board mounted connectors...

@MILC they didn't solder ribbon cables, they eliminated ribbon cables in favor of soldering the external connectors to the board. 40 years of personal experience suggests external connectors with...

Good thermal design doesn't lead to overheating and shutdown. Poor thermal design leads to short recording times and thermal contamination of images. It looks like Nikon beats both Sony and Canon.

Maybe with a rollup mirror.

Well MILC, you have no idea. You claimed Renesas is fabless, I said untrue, they still run several fabs for power and automotive applications. They are out of the fab sensor...
-
@MILC That is simply untrue. They did see that competing with Sony Semi was futile. Did you see the news stories about Ford and other auto makers filling parking lots with vehicles missing chips?...
-
@MILC, That TSMC agreement is for SoC, like Bionz. Currently Sony imaging has Bionz fabbed by Global Foundries, another fab that uses those "obsolete" Nikon Steppers, they need to move on to EUV...
-
Because they want to own the sensor business. They also bought the Renesas fab Nikon used for the D3/D700. Sony Semiconductor Services is a much larger business than the entire division Sony...
-
@MILC, Sensors, even BSI and Stacked, don't need leading edge FABs. The Renesas fab Sony Semi purchased was all Nikon, as was the Toshiba fab, as are all the Sony Semi fabs. You would not be able...
